Grey Falls
You know who we are.
Moon Lake
Early in the tribe's history, Nimor (the first true chief)
challenged her twin, Arran. Arran left the tribe with his firstborn
son, a few wolves, and a couple of sympathetic (or crazy) Purebloods.
They met up with a struggling group of Purebloods and imposed on them
the way of the wolves -- the way as seen in Arran's skewed vision.
Rumor has it that this tribe has a definite strain of madness going
through it. This holt lies to the south, a walk of several weeks.
This is not an actively-played holt, nor shall it be.
Dark Tree
A few thousand turns ago some elves split off from the Moon Lake
tribe. They became the ill-fated Dark Tree holt. Too small to
survive, they died out a few hundred turns after they began, but
their children were wrapped in Preserver wrapping before the last of
the adults were wiped out. Darktree was rediscovered by the Grey
Falls tribe in their travels, and several of the Grey Falls adults
stayed behind to help rebuild the Dark Tree tribe.
The Go-Backs (Four-Prong Lodge)
Only a few Wolfriders ever visited the Go-Backs and returned to tell
the story. The Go-Backs lived in the Everwinter, White-cold lands, a
journey of nearly a turn. It is known that they could conceive cubs
without Recognition; had a very strict tribal order; did lovely
weaving, had lives that were nasty, brutish, and short; and were
raising a half-Wolfrider cub called Hartrunner, son of Treesniffer,
once of Grey Falls Holt. A few of their tribe came to visit Grey
Falls just prior to and during the troll wars. They have since
returned to Four-Prong Lodge. The Four-Prong Lodge was burned out by
northern trolls and the inhabitants either captured or slain. A few
remain alive, most of them at Darktree holt. If there are others
wandering around we don't know of them yet.
The Rainforest tribe (Silvernet)
This is the origin of the Go-Backs. As the ancestors of the Grey
Falls tribe struggled to the east of the Palace, this small group of
elves and trolls--not realizing there were other survivors--fled to
the west, and eventually made their way to the Vastdeep and beyond.
After living in a tropical rainforest for at least a thousand years,
most of them turned northward again to find the Palace. A small
splinter group was led by a fanatic named Tirin, who believed the
High Ones would return for them. They fled to a isolated island where
they were encountered by the Wolfriders in 10,043, when these elves
called themselves the Watchkeepers.
Fargazer's Rock
A desert tribe. Many of the Grey Falls Wolfriders migrated there
following the troll wars. This was an active holt on Delphi online
service, but is no longer played. Tilvah, Yharren, Navah, and Ronti
are purebloods from Grey Falls who live in the desert now.
The Sun Warriors
A nomadic tribe, also in the desert. They were the only elves known
to wage war on other elves until the Watchkeepers were discovered.
They are nearly human in their thinking (though they'd kill if they
ever heard anyone say that). Also part of the Delphi holt.
Gliders
Not everyone who lives in the Glider mountain has gliding magic.
Those who do become hunters and bird riders, serving their people and
Lord Aurellan, who is Allim's half-sister.
The Glider mountain was colonized when Imris the High One left the main group of elves in the Long-Ago times. He took rockshapers with him and had them shape the first tunnels into the lone mountain. Through vigilance and vicious attacks on any humans who come near, the Gliders encouraged the humans to think their mountain was haunted, and thus the humans consider it taboo. The Gliders are led, so far as they're concerned, by Lord Aurellan who is the daughter of Imris. For many years they searched for the son of Imris, Allim. When he was found by Liafair, she Recognized him, but was so disgusted by the process and by the Wolfriders that she kept the information from her people. She went into Preserver wrappings, hoping to sleep through the pregnancy, but the unborn Tito slept also. Finally she gave birth to him some years later and dumped him on Allim's doorstep.
In actuality, the Gliders are ruled by an small group of ancient elves. Vistian heads the group. It was he who raised Aurellan after Imris' "accidental" death which he arranged. When she was thoroughly of his mindset, he even revealed his hand in that event. He and she are of one mind as they rule. Their intent is to thwart an ancient prophesy which states that "A son of the seed of Imris shall rule the Palace." They assumed that would be Allim, and plotted to find and kill him. They nearly succeeded when the Gliders captured Tito and Allim came to the Glider's mountain. So far as Aurellan knows, Allim is dead. Now it is Tito they worry about.
The Gliders have a strict hierarchy of power. There are no official ranks or positions, other than hunters or the Lord Aurellan herself, but the Gliders, if asked, could quickly and easily line themselves up by unspoken ranks. They all work together like ants in an anthill to make the colony hum. Their main purpose, they are told, is to combine their mental powers to bring the Palace to them in order to reclaim in. In actuality, those of the inner circle are using the power to keep the Palace firmly in place just in case a "son of the seed of Imris" should try to claim it.
Whitewillows
A few hundred turns ago, a small party of hunters set out from Moon
Lake in search of the Palace. They came near but failed to reach the
Palace because of the trolls in the area. They returned to Moon Lake
to ask for reinforcements but were refused, and returned North to try
again and to become a holt of their own. Disputes brought about a
challenge, driving Chieftess Irontree away. She and her few followers
(including the cub Foxtracks) found safety at Grey Falls. They
returned to Whitewillows and Irontree again took control. Recently
the holt was attacked by trolls. Cyclone (the former Foxtracks) and
his young friend Stormrook fled, thinking the tribe had been wiped
out. The small band of survivors have gave up on keeping a holt of
their own and have were allowed to join Four Prong Lodge.
The Watchkeepers
This tribe of purebloods from Silvernet developed a relationship with
the local humans who build temples in their honor. Eventually, for
reasons unknown, the elves migrated over the southern sea to a
tropical island, where they set up a colony. They had at some time in
their past come into posession of the Scrolls of Color from the
Palace. One they took with them, perhaps forgetting there was a
second still in one of the stone temples. The Watchkeepers became
fanatical about pure blood lines, and believed firmly that the High
Ones would come to them if they remained faithful and on watch.
Vellah, one of their elders, knew that their fanatacism for purity
was leading to terrible inbreeding. To save her tribe, she took a
captive troll as a mate and produced Fairsky, the first of the
Trollkin. The Watchkeepers were so horrified that Vellah and her
followers were banished to the other side of the island, and the
Watchkeepers and Trollkin remained enemies for the centuries that
followed. The Watchkeeper palace was destroyed by Trollkin and
Wolfriders in 10,043. Their cruel leader, Luit, was slain at this
time.
The Trollkin
The Wolfriders discovered both Trollkin and Watchkeepers in 10,045
when they came to the island in search of the companion to the scroll
they found in an abandoned stone temple. They later returned to the
island when the Trollkin were hit with a terrible plague. Fairsky,
half-mad at the time, tried to take control of the Wolfriders. His
son, Arak, fought with Fairsky and lamed him, then left the island
with the Wolfriders and his lovemate, Bluestone. Fairsky later fled
the island with his followers and waged war on the Wolfriders,
slaying Bluestone and poisoning the holt. Arak and several of his
tribemates tried tracking Fairsky south, and found the island
abandoned. Apparently the Trollkin had taken in the last few
Watchkeepers, but no one knows where they have disappeared to.
